Happy 4th!

Hey, Corey Rust here with Envi Adventures. Everybody loves the 4th of July! It’s the Christmas of summer with family and friend gatherings for barbecues, camping on the mountain, boating on the river, and everyone’s favorite…blowing up cheap Chinese made explosives. Nothing says freedom better than that. But when we think about the 4th, we also think of the sacrifice so many have made to maintain the freedoms we do have. These incredible men and women go where they’re called without second guessing even though the conflict might not even make sense. They go with courage and the respect of millions. So to those who go downtown and protest whatever it is they’re protesting, yelling and screaming at each other over petty disagreements, try shutting up for a second and think about the fact that there’s a young and courageous…

Go do something different.

Hey, Corey Rust for Envi Adventures. Summer time. Vacations. Traveling. It’s what people look forward to for months and months. But when people plan a trip, they plan to do the cliche stuff. In Portland, everyone goes to VooDoo Doughnuts, PIttock Mansion, and Multnomah Falls. Nothing wrong with that. But did you know there are in fact other things to do? Yep. In the Columbia River Gorge alone, in addition to the ever famous Multnomah Falls, there are 74 other waterfalls, 54 separate hiking trails, and 21 parks! That’s a whole week of activity right there! Here’s the problem– everybody knows how incredible the gorge is. That’s why 4 million people visit Multnomah Falls every year. There’s nothing like being stuck in the car and battling crowds while using up that hard earned vacation time. So here’s an idea, fly…

Not new. Just improved.

Hey, Corey Rust here for Envi Adventures. Winston Churchill once said that “To improve is to change; to perfect is to change often.” Change is something a lot of people can’t accept, or even go as far as won’t accept. I admit it, I have a hard time with change too. It’s not that I’m a misty eyed nostalgist that yearns for days long past. I don’t know what it is. Probably laziness. But one change I can get behind is the changes you’ll see at Envi Adventures. We’ve recently revealed and introduced a new look on our airplane. And if you recall what it looked like before, this is a change I can get behind. And that’s good, because I designed and paid for it. Unless you’re color blind, the airplane has a predominately blue theme. Some might say…

Adventuring.

Hi there. Corey Rust here for Envi Adventures. When was the last time you went out on a whim and adventured? I don’t mean you hopped in the car and went to a Burger King in a sketchy part of town; although that is an adventure in and of itself. I mean an adventure where you went somewhere completely new to see, smell, feel, and experience something fresh. It’s a nice refreshing eye opener to the world that exists outside of your regularly attended cubicle. Here at Envi, we really like being outside and seeing new stuff. That might be part of the reason why our ‘Wonderful Waterfalls’ flight adventure is our most popular option. Society is drawn to beautiful things whether it’s a nice new car that’s not a Prius, a beautifully designed house, or things that naturally exist…

The summer solstice fast approaches.

Ahhh…summer. Corey Rust here for Envi Adventures. Summer’s a time for watermelon, homemade lemonade, and sweaty pits. It’s not all glamorous, yet we can’t get enough of the season. Especially in Oregon. If you’ve never experienced an Oregon summer, you’ve been missing out. Now, I know people in Wisconsin, or Nevada, or Thailand will all…

What is this anyway?

Corey Rust here for Envi Adventures. I often get asked why I started Envi Adventures? “Isn’t hard?” “Isn’t there a lot of rules?” “Do you think people are going to like the flights?” Yes. Yes. And…yes. Those are three good reasons why I am. I like the challenge. I like the development of an idea on paper and seeing it transform into something real after some hard work, sacrifice, and a bit of creativity. In aviation, there are a lot of rules. Most make good sense, some less, but all are there for safety. Sometimes I overhear conversations from other people involved in aviation that want to bend the rules in their favor and frankly, it really annoys me. Envi Adventures follows the rules and obeys the law so everyone stays safe. There is no other and certainly no better…

I’m not particularly nostalgic.

Hello. Corey Rust here for Envi Adventures. I had a blog once in 2007. It was good. It had a vast audience of 7. It’s hard not to look smug with stats like that. So this is somewhat of a return to my online journalistic career at which I never made any money. But I digress. While my attempts at poorly crafted blog humor fizzled out about as quickly as it started, in the same period of time I started consistently training to earn my pilots license. It was a dream come true! I loved it. I couldn’t get enough. Long had I dreamt of controlling an airplane by myself. Even with a competent and wonderful instructor by my side throughout, it was a liberation I hadn’t felt except for that first time mowing the lawn independently at age 11,…
